meet With an experienced clinical supervisor in Colorado!
Alicia Kwande, LCSW
clinical supervisor
Who I work with best for supervision:
As you are finding your feet as a pre-licensed clinician, you may be seeking out what field of practice is a good fit for you; struggling to find confidence in your clinical skills; or are just recognizing how much you have yet to learn. I work well with people who are in the process of building and finding their niche and strengths within the mental health field.
If you are entering a second career in the field of social work or counseling, or happened to join this field a little later in life, I would also be a good fit. You have life experience, yet still have much to learn as a newer therapist in the field. You may be in private practice, or working for an agency, clinic, or hospital where you don’t receive the focused supervision and support you need to hone your clinical skills. I enjoy helping people build confidence and translate knowledge from life experience into clinical practice.
My clinical experience with adults includes working with individuals struggling with grief, anxiety, depression; those who suffer from compassion fatigue and caregiver exhaustion; and with crisis/emergency work. I practice from a culturally-competent perspective and will support you in how you work with diverse populations, drawing from your own experiences.
If you are looking to learn more about yourself and about how your strengths fit into your professional role, how you can build up areas you see as your weaknesses, and if you value honest and open communication, I would enjoy working with you.
clinical supervision models:
The model from which I supervise is an Integrative Developmental Model. I work with you as a therapist in your professional growth where you are at clinically to help you move to the next level. Therapy modalities I am trained in and feel most comfortable using in supervision are:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Trauma-informed care
-
Person-centered and strengths-based approaches
-
Crisis intervention/assessment
-
Multicultural models

why I'm passionate about supervision:
I was fortunate enough to begin my pre-licensed work under very supportive clinical supervision, which set me up for a positive trajectory in my clinical endeavors. Solid clinical supervision is essential to our growth as clinicians and is so necessary to prevent burnout and to bolster the passion that brought you into the field initially. I enjoy the privilege of supporting up-and-coming therapists in the field, as a way of living out my values for the learning process, integrity, quality of care, and passion for the field of mental health.

Clinical supervision training & experience:
I have received training in the areas of grief and loss, perinatal mental health, depression, anxiety, severe and persistent mental illness, crisis assessment, diagnosing; and mental illness with comorbid conditions. I have supervised pre-licensed and licensed clinicians in community mental health, in library social work, and in psychiatric hospital assessment teams. I have also completed specialized training in providing supervision, including a 45 hour supervision course in 2021. I'd love to connect with you further to find out if we would be a good match!

Who I work with best for supervision:
If you work with children, adolescents, families or women in a trauma-informed setting, I would be a good fit working with you. Maybe you are working in an agency, school, hospital or residential setting and the supervision you’re getting is either absent or not adequate to meet your needs.
You might be a beginning clinician, either pre-licensed and looking for supervised hours, or are newly licensed and are looking for clinical consultation in your private practice. Or you are shifting your practice modality to more trauma focused or there are substance abuse concerns that you want more support with. I also provide supervision of your supervision as I have over 15 years' experience as a clinical supervisor and am passionate about helping you provide top-quality supervision.

Working with children or within family systems can be challenging beyond just your clinical work. If you are looking to broaden your horizons, work within multiple systems, and get the knowledge and understanding from an experienced clinician in the field, I would enjoy working with you.
clinical supervision models:
The primary supervision model that I adhere to is the Integrative Developmental Model, where I identify where you are in your professional development and then match my supervision interventions appropriately. I am trained and comfortable in supervising you using these models:
-
Integrative
-
Non-directive, person-centered and strengths-based
-
Trauma informed
-
Motivational Interviewing
-
Family systems
I also have a trained animal assisted therapy dog (Tucker!) and can supervise you for animal assisted therapy.

why I'm passionate about Clinical supervision:
Watching your professional growth and your “ah-ha” moments of learning are what motivates me as a clinical supervisor. At the beginning of my career, I worked in a residential setting without the needed support and clinical supervision. This helped me realize how powerful quality clinical supervision can be to promote growth and continue my professional learning in the field.
Together we will identify your strength areas and the areas in which I can help you most. I specialize in working within systems and meeting you where you are at in your professional journey.

supervision training & experience:
My training and experience is in the areas of children, adolescents, families, and women. Clinically, my focuses are trauma work, family systems, emergency/crisis evaluations, assessment, substance abuse, perinatal mental health, and outpatient therapy. I have been providing clinical supervision for pre-licensed and licensed social workers, therapists, marriage and family therapists, and addictions counselors since being licensed as an LCSW in 2006 and a CAS (Certified Addictions Specialist) in 2009.

I have had specific training in clinical supervision in graduate school plus various other clinical supervision trainings including group facilitation training. I also completed a 45 hour supervision course in 2021. If you’re interested in working with me for clinical supervision or consultation or supervision of your supervision, I’m happy to talk with you further to see if we would be a good fit!

Who I work with best for supervision:
Perhaps you are working at an agency that does not provide clinical supervision, or you're looking for a more clinical focus than the administrative supervision you're usually given. Or you're working at a private practice that doesn't offer clinical supervision, or a hospital where you are the only therapist around. I've worked in many of these same settings, and understand the isolation you have without a supportive, clinically-focused team to rely on.

My experience is working with adults from a trauma-informed viewpoint, and I also specialize in perinatal mental health, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and grief. I am trained in EMDR.

If you are motivated to learn and grow as a therapist, have or want to develop good personal insight, and if you value open communication between yourself and your supervisor, I would be a good fit to work with you. Attending therapy yourself and experiencing being a client is also important to me.
clinical supervision models:
My focus as your supervisor will be on your personal and professional growth as a counselor, as I align most closely with the Professional Growth Model. I also use various Psychotherapy Based Models for supervision that focuses on learning the skills and interventions of various theoretical orientations. I feel comfortable supervising you in these theoretical orientations:
-
Trauma
-
CBT
-
Strengths-based, Person Centered
-
Solution-Focused Therapy
And, finally, I do not neglect looking at parallel processes and adjusting my interventions to where you are developmentally as a counselor.

why I'm passionate about Clinical supervision:
I want to cultivate a place of trust and openness, so you can gain increased self awareness, professional growth and development and meet your goals as a therapist. I want to encourage you to overcome barriers in reaching your goals, pushing you outside your comfort zone in order to see your true potential.

I am passionate about clinical supervision because I’ve had the opportunity to work with incredible supervisors that motivated me to reach outside my comfort zone because they saw my potential. They helped me past my insecurities and barriers. I want to now give back what I have learned and been graciously given.

supervision training & experience:
I have training in the areas of depression, anxiety, severe and persistent mental illness, grief and loss, trauma, ADHD, perinatal mental health, assessment and diagnosing. I am trained in providing EMDR. I also have specialized training in the area of clinical supervision and have clinically supervised pre- and post-licensure LCSW candidates in various settings including community mental health, nursing homes, and private practice. I have completed several formal clinical supervision trainings since 2012, including a 45 hour supervision course in 2021, and I am ready and energized to work with you!

Who I work with best for supervision:
If you are pre-licensed, in a job that offers little to no formal clinical supervision, or an experienced therapist in an agency or private practice setting, I would love to work with you. Especially if you are relationship-oriented and love to learn, I can help you reach your professional goals and feel more supported in your career. Openness to feedback and knowing there is no one "right" way to do everything are also among my values as a supervisor. I work with adults with anxiety, depression, grief, and perinatal concerns.

As an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), I also provide supervision of your supervision. If you are a beginning or intermediate-level clinical supervisor, I can provide you support and guidance of your own supervision, and help you along your life-long journey of learning!

If you are looking for answers to all your questions, I may not be the best fit for you as I will challenge you to think and come up with your solutions. If you're looking to have open and honest conversations about race, ethnicity, culture, and diversity, I might be a good fit for you. I can provide supervision and consultation for therapists in both Colorado and Washington.
Approved clinical supervision models:
I supervise primarily utilizing the Professional Growth Model, which emphasizes your development as a person and counselor. Self-awareness and insight are integral to becoming an effective counselor in the field. I am also proficient in the use of Skills Based and Developmental models of supervision, based on where you are as a growing professional. I can utilize various different supervision approaches including:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
-
Motivational Interviewing
-
Person-Centered Counseling
-
Solution Focused Therapy
-
Crisis/Emergency Work
Because I have worked in so many different settings, I can easily adjust my supervision and orientation to your needs.

why I'm passionate about supervision:
I love providing clinical supervision because it is so necessary to grow and thrive as a clinician. The excellent supervision I’ve received in the past motivates me to work with therapists like you to help you reach your professional goals. Without supervision and support from a knowledgeable mentor or supervisor, you may start to practice outside the limits of your training and experience, or even approach burn-out. I believe in providing top-quality clinical supervision so that you can be the best therapist you can be.

I will meet you where you are at in your development and we will develop a supervision plan that meets your goals. I specialize in working on active listening, transference/counter-transference, skill development, and how your personal life may impact your counseling.

Clinical supervision training & experience:
I have training in the areas of depression, anxiety, severe and persistent mental illnesses, grief and loss, perinatal mental health, substance abuse, emergency evaluations/crisis work, assessment, outpatient therapy, and diagnosing. I also have specialized training in the area of clinical supervision and have clinically supervised pre- and post-licensure LPC and CAS candidates since 2007 in various settings including community mental health, hospitals, nursing homes, crisis centers, and private practices. I am Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), meaning that I have met national professional supervision standards through CCE.

During my experience as a supervisor and manager in community mental health, I also focused on program development and evaluation, and creating systems to allow processes to run more smoothly and efficiently. If you are in need of program development, we can include this in our supervision work.

I have attended several formal trainings in clinical supervision including refresher clinical supervision courses in 2020/2021. I also receive my own clinical supervision on a regular basis because I believe in the value of professional consultation and supervision. When you're ready to start working with me, I'd be happy to join you in your professional growth career!
