Great question!
First, breaking down the term ‘Starter Kit’. As it’s defined in the dictionary, a Starter Kit is “ a set of articles or equipment providing the essential items and instructions for taking up a particular activity or process for the first time.” (Oxford English Dictionary)
The Mental Health Starter Kit aims to provide knowledge, skills, and resources directly to you. It’s a 6-week, online group that is facilitated by a mental health counselor.
This group is for you if you’d like to learn more about your mental health, ways to cope in distressing moments, how to show up for loved ones and friends, and so much more!
You do not have to be new to the world of therapy or mental health to join. We encourage those who may have tried therapy in the past, who are currently in therapy, and/or those who have no idea how to take care of their mental health to register for this group.
In designing the Mental Health Starter Kit, ensuring an engaging and interactive experience was top priority. Each week will be filled with activities focusing on strengthening your understanding of your own of mental health. These activities are heavily reliant on your continued participation with fellow members.
What types of activities do you have planned?
Without sharing too much, all the activities planned are around a central theme of mental health. For example, one of the activities planned relates to a choose your own adventure type story. The only exception being it will be about your life and your daily decisions. Having increased awareness and intentionality in your day to day can help with improving your mental health. Our intention behind this is to make mental health care information not only accessible but engaging and memorable.
Most of the learning will come from group discussions. We encourage you to ask questions and provide your feedback.
Why was this course designed?
At Catalyss Counseling, our primary goal is to provide high quality mental health care to those who seek it. The Mental Health Starter Kit is now another avenue in which we can provide that. Even with all the information that you can find online about mental health, it can be difficult to conceptualize and put it into action. Not only will you be expanding your mental health knowledge in this group, you will gain a better understanding of the material through our interactive activities and discussions.
How is the group structured?
We’ve designed this course to take place over six weeks with the same members each week.
We only have a few slots available, and the group sessions are done through Zoom. Every meeting will be facilitated by Marie Clyne, a licensed therapist and the designer of the course.
All sessions of the Mental Health Starter Kit will maintain a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to share, explore, and play within each meeting. That’s why we structured it to include a different activity each week. We look forward to hearing your feedback!
